Planning permission for demolition of existing buildings at 55 - 65 Queensway Bletchley and construction of a mixed use development including retail/office units and 48 flats was refused by Milton Keynes Council's Development Committee on 1 August 2019. Town Councillors were unanimous in their opposition to the proposed development. Only 33 spaces for several commercial units and 48 flats (31 of which had 2 bedrooms) were to be provided by the developer and the Town Council said this wasn't enough. Councillors were also concerned about the potential loss of a popular anchor store and the detrimental impact this development could have on shoppers and employees. These concerns were shared by Milton Keynes Councillors Allan Rankine and Martin Gowans who also submitted objections as did members of the Bletchley community. Although permission for the development is refused for now it is possible that the applicant may appeal this decision.
