Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Council funded and hosted a welcoming and inclusive Community Iftar on Friday 22 March 2024. Over 200 people were present in a celebration of diversity and communal harmony. Iftar is the name of the meal eaten by Muslims at sunset to break their fast-during Ramadan. The event was open to people of all faiths and none, bringing together community members and families of various backgrounds to share in the spirit of Ramadan.
Delia Shephard, Town Clerk explained “Our community is culturally and ethnically diverse and the town council wants to celebrate that diversity through enjoyable events that build community cohesion and mutual understanding. Sharing delicious food is a universal way to break down barriers.”
The event was also supported by contributions from Islamic community group MKIAC, local businesses and Milton Keynes City Council.
